We welcomed back Group 1 racing with a boil-over in the Winx Stakes on Saturday with VIA SISTINA ($13/$3.65 BSP), announcing herself as the heir apparent to the Australian racing throne. A barnstorming run up the inside was enough to pip ZOUGOTCHA ($2.34) under the shadows of the post, whilst FANGIRL ($1.39) produced an eye catching run down the outside. The last 600m sectionals of VIA SISTINA and FANGIRL were identical from what I’ve heard – someone can fact check me if they want.
Last year’s champion, Austin, and perennial pest, The Cat, shared the spoils for the weekly prize, both having $100 win on VIA SISTINA to take them to $1200 profit for the round. Slugger was third with $50 win on VIA SISTINA. Only six tipsters made it into the positive, with FAN GIRL and ZOUGOTCHA carrying most of the virtual money. I shudder to think how much ‘actual’ money was donated to the online bookies from this group. See the full leaderboard here.
This also means the Captain Consistency award has kicked off too. This is calculated after each round, where you receive 1 point if your kitty is in the positive for that round.
